Planning a move out of Tennessee

Long distance moves go smoothest when they start early. If you can, reach out four to eight weeks ahead so we can hold your dates and plan packing.

Price depends mainly on distance, how much you're moving and how much packing you need. We'll go over these with you and put everything in a written estimate.

Short on time? We also offer full packing and storage to bridge gaps between move-out and move-in.

Interstate, long distance and intrastate moves: what the words mean

An interstate move crosses a state line, for example Nashville to Atlanta, Charlotte or Chicago. These moves take the most planning: two sets of building rules, a longer drive and a delivery date that has to work at the other end.

A long distance move is a broader term for any move over a long distance. It can mean leaving Tennessee or a long move inside the state, such as Nashville to Memphis or Knoxville. An intrastate move stays within Tennessee.

Whichever kind you have, we start the same way: we learn where you are going, when you need to be there and what is coming with you, then put the plan and the price in a written estimate.

How interstate moves are priced

Every out-of-state move is quoted individually. The main things that set the price are:

  • Distance between your current home and your new one.
  • How much you are moving: the number of rooms, large furniture and boxes.
  • Packing: whether you pack yourself, want us to pack everything, or just the kitchen and fragile items. See packing services.
  • Storage: if your new home is not ready, short-term storage can bridge the gap.
  • Access at both ends: stairs, elevators, long walks from the truck and building rules all affect time.

We go over these with you and send a written estimate that lists your price and what it includes, so you can compare movers on the same terms before you book.

Planning timeline for an out-of-state move

Six to eight weeks out

Request your estimate and pick pickup and delivery dates. Summer dates fill first, so earlier is better if you are moving between May and August.

Three to four weeks out

Decide what is coming with you. Selling or donating items you no longer need lowers the size of the move. If you need help clearing things out, we also offer junk removal.

One to two weeks out

Confirm parking or elevator reservations at both buildings, start packing rooms you use least, and set aside a box of essentials that travels with you.

Moving week

If we are packing, the crew usually packs the day before loading. On loading day we protect furniture with pads and wrap, load the truck and go over the delivery plan with you.

Business and office moves out of state

Relocating an office or business to another state? We plan commercial moves around your hours, so your team is back to work quickly at the new location.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I book a long distance move?

Four to eight weeks is ideal, especially in summer. If your timeline is shorter, call or text us and we'll see what we can do.

How is a long distance move priced?

Mostly by distance, the size of the move and any packing or storage you add. You'll get a written estimate before you book.

Can you pack for me?

Yes. We offer full packing or just the rooms you choose, like the kitchen or fragile items.

What if my new home isn't ready?

We can store your things short-term and deliver when you're ready.

What's the difference between interstate and long distance moving?

Interstate means the move crosses a state line. Long distance is a broader term that can include long moves inside Tennessee, like Nashville to Memphis or Knoxville.

Do you give a written estimate for interstate moves?

Yes. You get your price and what it includes in writing before you book.

Can I move just part of my home out of state?

Yes. Tell us what is coming with you and we will plan and price the move around those items.

Do you move offices and businesses to other states?

Yes. See our commercial moving page, or call or text (615) 258-6469.
