Why contents come out after a fire
Smoke and soot rarely stay in the room where the fire started. They travel through the house and settle on furniture, clothing and everything on the shelves.
Cleaning and rebuilding also need empty rooms. Walls, floors and ceilings can't be repaired around a houseful of furniture, and items left in place during the work can pick up more dust and odor.
A pack-out moves your belongings out of the way, keeps a record of everything, and protects it in storage until the house is ready.
What we do on a fire pack-out
One coordinator from the first walkthrough to the pack-back.
Safety first
The property needs to be cleared for entry before any pack-out begins. We work alongside your restoration company on timing.
Room-by-room packing
The crew packs and labels each room, from everyday items to furniture and keepsakes.
Photo inventory
We photograph rooms and boxes as we pack and share the photos with you and your adjuster.
Cleaning vs. storage
Items that need cleaning are kept separate. Textiles go to a cleaning specialist; your restoration company and adjuster decide what can be saved.
Storage until repairs are done
Contents stay in climate-controlled storage monitored by 24/7 security cameras.
Pack-back and reset
When the house is ready, we bring everything back and set the rooms up again.
Your belongings in the first 48 hours after a fire
Every fire is different, so always follow your restoration company's and insurer's instructions. These general steps help:
- Don't go back inside until the property is cleared for entry.
- Call your insurance company to start the claim and note your claim number.
- If it is safe, photograph the rooms before anything is moved.
- Avoid wiping or washing soot-covered items yourself until the restoration company says it is OK.
- Make a list of the things you need right away: documents, medications, phone chargers, school and work items.
- Call or text (615) 258-6469 to schedule the pack-out.
